SIGAR’s Office of Special Projects team was created in 2013 to examine emerging issues and deliver prompt, actionable reports to federal agencies and the Congress. The team conducted a variety of assessments, producing reports on all facets of Afghanistan reconstruction during 2013 to 2021. These reports covered a wide range of programs and activities to fulfill SIGAR’s legislative mandate and protect taxpayers.
The directorate was comprised of auditors, analysts, investigators, lawyers, subject-matter experts and other specialists who can quickly and jointly apply their expertise to emerging problems and questions. The directorate performed its reviews in accordance with the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) Quality Standards for Inspections and Evaluations.
