Washington, D.C. – Over two dozen staffers of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), including many serving long tours in Afghanistan, were recognized Tuesday for outstanding achievements at the 17th Annual Inspector General Community awards ceremony.
The awards included the Sentner award for courage presented to SIGAR Special Agent Jeffrey Millslagle in recognition of his courage, uncommon selflessness, and dedication to duty during an insurgency attack on the Herat Consulate in Afghanistan in September 2013. This is the third time that SIGAR has been awarded the prestigious Sentner award.
"I could not be more proud of SIGAR and the work we have accomplished over the last year ,” said Special Inspector General John F. Sopko. " Our staff work tirelessly in some of the most challenging conditions, and it is a real honor that their outstanding work is being recognized by their peers. "
The awards were presented by the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency(CIGIE) in a ceremony at the Ronald Reagan Building Amphitheatre. Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James B. Comey was the keynote speaker.

- AWARD FOR AUDIT EXCELLENCE to Christopher Borgeson, Jeffrey Brown, Matthew Dove, Zubair Hakimzada, Ryan Heger, and Donnalee Scharschmidt in recognition of audit excellence in identifying millions of dollars in taxes that were inappropriately levied on U.S. contractors supporting reconstruction programs in Afghanistan.
- AWARD FOR AUDIT EXCELLENCE to Matthew Dove, Stoughton Farnham, Jerome Goehring, Parker Laite, and William Shimp in recognition of audit excellence in identifying oversight weaknesses and enhancing efficiency and effectiveness of spending $772 million to operate, maintain, and sustain Afghanistan's Special Missions Wing.
- AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE SPECIAL ACT to Brian A, Persico and Lisa M. Corcoran in recognition of excellence in developing and implementing a comprehensive suspension and debarment program, resulting in hundreds of referrals and debarments over a 3-year period.
- AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE SPECIAL ACT to Michael Bindel, Victoria Butler. Clark Irwin, Vong Lim, Jennifer Manzullo, Olivia Paek, Emmett Schneider, Deborah Scroggins, Solange Toura Gaba, Daniel Weggeland, Genevieve Wilson and Joseph Windrem in recognition of excellence in providing comprehensive data and timely analysis needed by Congress to oversee more than $103 billion for rebuilding Afghanistan and make informed decisions to mitigate fraud, waste, and abuse
